New York has always been synonymous with sports. Its teams always amongst the most popular nation-wide and most successful, such as the NBA’s New York Knicks, NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets, NHL’s New York Rangers, and the New York Yankees and New York Mets of the MLB.
Additionally, their stadiums are nearly as well known as their teams. (What other city is that the case?) Take for example the Knicks’ home, Madison Square Garden. It is renowned for hosting huge concerts, political rallies, and boxing matches. This past season, both the Yankees and the Mets opened state-of-the-art stadiums: Citi Field and “new” Yankee Stadium (replacing the beloved and classic Shea and “old” Yankee Stadium, respectively). Luckily for both teams, their fan bases are huge and devoted and don’t mind arguing about which team is better.
