Every time I think about this move my blood pressure rises. North American Van Lines We hired Movers to make the moving experience less painful, but it made it worse. My husband is in sales and had the "opportunity" to move to another state with a higher volume territory. Since we had only been in Boise, ID, for one year, you can imagine I was not thrilled to be moving so soon, . They deliver the furniture for you and their method of delivery was the division of North American Van Lines they have there. Sometimes, even with a local move, you just have to admit that you and your buddies are getting a little old and decrepit for the traditional "Moving Day Party". You know what I'm talking about: you line up all your able-bodied friends for The Big Day, . My new employer was paying for my moving expenses and they asked me to get three estimates from different moving companies. We moved from Houston, TX to Brooklyn, NY, and decided to obtain several quotes from professional moving companies. In addition to being concerned about pricing, we were interested in hiring a company that would handle our goods safely and would also tre . In the process, they trashed my furniture, ruined my computer for future use, as well as lost my art files forever, lost 3. Delays, non-responsive service, mystery charges, damaged and missing items, . Prior to this move, my only moving experiences were (a) Uhaul and (b) the movie "Moving" starring Richard Pryor. First, the sales person that came to my apartment to draw up an estimate was very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time "surveying" my things (looking. We chose them because their prices were reasonable and because they agreed to a cap on how high the bill could be at the end of the move. We were having all of our household goods and furniture stored with North American Van Lines for approximately 10 months while our house was being built. Leaving Boulder was fine, as the contracted company (City Moving and Storage out of Louisville, CO) was very friendly, helpful, quick . We had a little bit of an unusual moving experience. We were out of town when the movers packed the remainder of our belongings (we'd packed most of them into boxes before leaving). You can drive the distance in about 4 hours; it took NAVL 14 days to deliver my shipment and I didn't know until 45 minutes beforehand when that would occur because . I had an entire truck (53 ft) Virtually Filled up when they were moving my House. At last count I could recall having about 30 different addresses; they add up between army, college and career. Moved 2000 lbs of household goods (mostly boxes and a few small pieces of furniture). They managed to break one of the few pieces of furniture I shipped. It was an antique hall tree and one of the legs appeared at though someone broke it over his knee. They quoted me an estimate, but did not tell me that it did not include the packing costs. After they picked up my belongings, they called to tell me my final cost. The movers we met were very nice and quite personable. I paid them $5800 to move us 1947 miles from Illinois to California. No one showed up to unload the truck, so after waiting for most of a day, the driver and I unloaded the truck. The local agent was untruthful over appliance service resulting in an additional $101 charge at destination. The local agent gave a guaranteed-not-to-exceed estimate and then when the cost did exceed. The men did not try the back door, they were too tired. I spent 2 days and had to bribe 5 friends to help me move all of my family's belongings into storage until our house was finished. We chose North American Van Lines based on the promises by their visiting representative that this company offers the greatest customer care. Before I write this review, please believe me when I say that this review is not creative writing, it is not a joke. They sent apparently inexperienced labor (day labor), and helped ruin my belongings. By the time they arrived LATE in Mississippi, I discovered broken furniture, crushed boxes, . The total damages in my last four moves combined didn't. This is an excellent web site, mostly I assume for the consumer to grovel or applaud a product or service. I am a contracted driver for NAVL and have advise and comments. I have been working in the moving business for two years now. Professional and careful to detail when packing furniture. Initially, they are very professional on the phone while trying to earn your business. However, once you leave a deposit of $200 you're told that the only payment they accept at pick up and delivery is cash or postal money . They picked up my belongings 7/1/11 and guaranteed delivery by 7/14. I was never contacted throughout these dates regarding updates and had to call the manager of my move several times to . We vowed after seeing the damage they would NEVER touch our things again. The Relocation Systems truck that was sent on August 7, 2003, was too small for the load, even though my shipment was 3000 pounds less than Relocation Systems had estimated. Relocation Systems assured me that the remainder of my household goods would arrive just a few days after the primary truck. Assuming most people are honest, I was foolish and believed them. Well, it is now September 6th, and the truck has still not arrived. Relocation Systems and North American Van Lines have pointed fingers at each other, told half-truths, and yet, still, can not get my household goods delivered. I will pursue both NAVL and Relocation Systems for restitution of their overcharge and incredibly bad performance on this move, but I am sure I am not alone in this experience. Driver and one of the employees, based out of Atlanta GA, got in a fight and my furniture was thrown out of their truck. Drivers are dishonest, claims process is a nightmare. They showed up in Atlanta with one man and the driver to unload over 7,000 lbs. Although they did finally get another man to help unload it went very very slowly. The movers seemed very angry at the driver throughout the entire ordeal. By the time they left (at about 3 am) two pieces of furniture were damaged the carpets were soiled and they had damaged some mailboxes on the street. All other moves went quite smoothly, North American was a terrible experience. We have moved 10 times and the last 3 of those have been with North American - all three were so great. They kept us updated on our shipment all the way through; they held our hands when we were stressed out; their drivers called to let us know exactly when they would deliver us and all the people we worked with were so nice. We had previously moved ourselves with a rental truck. The estimator did not try to hard-sell, simply estimated our load and gave us a price. Balazs, owned his own truck, a spotless and well-maintained machine. His pride of ownership showed in everything he did. He packed well, told us when he would show up on our doorstep, called us 24 hours prior to delivery to verify, and unloaded and placed everything in the house. Balazs missed one small box from the kitchen during the unload and called us the next day to let us know he would UPS it to us. I was referred to them through my nephew's employer, a large company which had used them exclusively for employee moves. Four years ago I moved from New York State to Florida and they lost boxes containing items that, if found by the wrong people, could result in my being a victim of identity fraud. I complained to them vigorously and their response was an utter lack of concern. They refunded a pittance to me and I vowed I would tell anyone planning a move NEVER to use them. North American Van Lines talks a good game when they bid for your business, but once they get your business your belongings are not worth a dime. Your belongings, even priceless heirlooms, antiques, and non-replaceable items are treated like normal household trash, damaged, broken, even missing and then they take no responsibility whatsoever. Allied will send you a check if you complain long enough, for about 1/10th the value of the damage. They should be closed down until all their wrongs can be righted. Our car was delivered one month late with damages and they even tried to increase the fare at delivery. Unprofessional lying and very rude staff who will do everything to get your deposit and fail to deliver once they have your money. Because the new job was an unexpected opportunity, I had a very short time frame to work with. This was made worse by the fact that I was moving during June, the busy season for movers. The North American Van Lines agent was the only local company that would come out and give me an estimate. The agent worked very hard, making special arrangements to accommodate my move. The day of the move, the movers arrived on time, were great to deal with and got the job done really fast. They explained what they were doing, and I was very comfortable with the process. My things arrived as promised, on time and in good shape in Ohio, where the movers did a great job of unloading. Because of special arrangements the company made to get my things to Ohio, I knew the complete cost up front and paid with a credit card. I hired a moving agent which ended up turning out to be a bad idea. They came out and packed me up a few days later, picked up my stuff the following week and even delivered it on the very date that I specified that I needed it. I was very impressed with their professionalism and have called them again to move me in the coming weeks. I contracted with NAVL for a move from Florida to Pennsylvania, stressing at the time that family antiques would form the bulk of the items. On that day I specifically instructed the packers to put a particularly valuable and fragile item in its own box. When it arrived, the 150 year old bowl had been put at the bottom of a dish pack box with no protective wrapping and it was shattered into hundreds of pieces. This was a legacy piece passed from mothers to daughters over the decades. Other damaged items included hundred-year-old rockers, one of which had completely lost its carved headrest. Shelves were missing from a bookcase, and carved trim had been sheared off other pieces of furniture. I haven't been able to tell my 85-year-old mother about the damage--it would kill her. When they had our goods "hostage" on the truck they called us and said they had weighed everything and we owed them another $1000. My family member paid it not knowing this was illegal. The packers came on time and handled my furniture and paintings very carefully. There was a glitch on the loading date but the coordinator got the problems resolved quickly by finding another driver to load us over the weekend. Delivery was only one day late because the driver caught a GI bug. But he called us on the morning of original delivery to let us know. I would recommend this agent for anyone moving from the Triangle Area in NC. Also, they are already a day late with delivering my goods. They called yesterday at the supposed delivery time to let me know "the truck broke down". I'm dreading looking at my stuff, I'm sure they broke something. Darlene at the Denver office was more than helpful. We got a great estimate from the company and paid what we were quoted. We packed everything in boxes and the driver did not squabble that we were a few boxes over the estimate. North American (NA) violated our contract on two (2) separate occasions by not delivering our household goods as promised. Therefore, we had to hire another carrier to deliver our goods. Due to the delay in delivery we had to make some purchases to live. Our contract specifically states dates of delivery. When NA did not deliver as promised they gave us an alternative delivery date, which they did not meet. We expect NA to pay for the items we had to purchase due to the delay in delivery. We expect NA or their agent Kings Moving and Storage to pay for the damage to our goods when they picked them up and stored them. However, we were exceedingly pleased with all aspects of this move. The 2 packers were professional, experienced and efficient. The crews that loaded and unloaded the van were also professional, experienced and efficient. Nothing was broken or damaged, everyone was on time. In fact the crew that unloaded us was able to made it a day early - which was just great. We did make sure to have bottled water and soda for them, as the weather was quite hot and humid. They did not crate up items specified in the contract that needed special treatment. No one is able to provide a delivery date and I know that I will never see my possessions again. It is not listed on the inventory so it is not covered. Parts of our beds missing, sewing box with contents that took years to collect. They damaged our TV and many of our paintings only to claim it was not their fault. They included unpacking in the cost but apparently that means just beds. Bag of my daughters dirty diapers taped to our mattress instead of the bed bolts, nice. Not one of the movers spoke english, or could count. I have moved several times, and my experience with North American Van Lines was beyond a nightmare. When he said he was on his way to Florida in realitry he was in Buffalo. When we filed a claim they denied it because we were not present during the delivery. When the furniture arrived we were charged extra $300, the driver was nasty and said that if we did not pay he will place all the furniture in storage and we will be charged even more. You should confirm all information before relying on it.
