Vivacious Vermont

Up in the northeastern region lies Vermont, the 14th state admitted into the Union. Vermont is one of the smallest states in the U.S. in terms of both size and population, coming in at 45th in land area and 49th in total number of residents (besting only Wyoming in the latter category). “The Green Mountain State” is bordered by Canada to the north, New Hampshire to the east, Massachusetts to the south, and New York to the west. Interestingly, Vermont is the only state in the New England region to have no Atlantic Ocean coastline.

But Vermont isn’t lacking for water; Lake Champlain is a large body of water on the state’s western and northwestern border. The Vermont capital city is Montpelier, while its largest city is Burlington. While both cities are charming and lively, they are also quite small. Montpelier is the smallest capital city in the country, and Burlington is the smallest largest city of any state.
