Background on Connecticut

Connecticut, a state loaded with American history dating back to colonial times, was the fifth state in the union back in 1788. The state is often referred to as “The Constitution State” for having written its Fundamental Orders in 1639, a precursor to what would become the United States’ Constitution.

With regards to the rest of the United States, Connecticut isn’t exactly a mammoth of land area either. The state is 48th in size by area. However, it is the 29th most populous state with over 3.4 million residents. Putting the relatively large number of residents inside the small land area of the state makes Connecticut the fourth-most densely populated state in the nation. Connecticut’s capital is Hartford, a 400-year-old city that is one of the country’s oldest. Other Connecticut cities of note include Bridgeport, New Haven and Waterbury.
